Placement of O2 sensor(s)
« on: March 30, 2015 - 09:28:43 PM »
I'm going to install wideband a/f gauge - directions says to place at least 18 inches from heads ... with stock manifolds ... this is very close to the turn in exhaust (which I would figure messy point) ... and directions says at least 2 inches after turn ...

Where do you guys put em?  Also .... from your experience ... on inside or outside?  I know directions say at least 10 degrees above horizontal.

I'll start with one (prob drivers side) then eventually do other bank.

Thanks

Your X/Y location is just fine.  Mine is right be for the collector and it works great.

Yes, running one on each bank is recommended, so if something should go a miss on one bank you can isolate it.

Cool ... thanks

Ya .. you're right ... if you're going to put one in ... might as well do two ... much better for understanding your engine, troubleshooting, etc.  Waiting for lift to be installed in garage - probably end Apr or early May.

Engine now is a fresh rebuild ... no smoke ... sounds right ... runs well in all rpm ranges & temps, idles nice, etc ... but I like details .....

Thanks again!

Not yet, they have been in the car for probably 8 months now, driven on every other Sat night, they are mounted horizontal.

Take a grease pencil and make a small line on either your header collector or exh pipe.  When you get to point where the grease mark just starts to melt, thats where the 02 sensor goes.   Sensor should be placed at a angle where condensation does not collect  (30 degree or so)

Autometer Ultra Lite Digital wideband

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/atm-4379

For oil pressure and temp same series ... just analog ... figure digital just be easier to read (and same price)  .... esp with aging eyes

The Pro Comp Ultra Lites look nice ... clean and subtle ... least IMHO   ;)

I have this one. AEM 30-4100 From Amazon
I think there is a newer model out now.
Mine came with a Black and a Silver Bezel and everything from sensor to gauge needed to install. I placed mine under the heater controls using an existing hole.

Have a look at these.... gets your sensor out of the condensate area but keeps it parallel to the floor..
