71 Cuda additional fender tag
« on: April 06, 2015 - 01:57:22 PM »
My girlfriends dad bought a 71 cuda convertible and we were checking out the fender tags and noticed an additional tag we can't figure out. It looks like it has a stamped cresent moon and an inverted "T" on it. Does anyone know what this means or where to look to find out. Thanks

It's a inspection tag. Keep it on the car, but it really has no significance or value.

The picture posted above is from the recent Mopar Collector's Guide....Is that the car you're asking about, or does your girlfriend's Father's car just have a similar tag ?

Didn't that style inspection tag come on cars only from LA assembly plant?

Not just LA plants.
Here is an inspection tag on a duster with a B code.

:iagree:Definitely keep it with the car.

Alan, does this tag help the value by any means when you are looking at a car with all docs?  Do you even consider this tag when looking at all the numbers and info?

I don't know but this is the one from my LA built car, I sure would like a better explanation of why some cars have them. Mine just has the T punched thru it, is a more though random inspection or something else?

Yea I will have to double check mine for that T punch as I don't recall one on mine off top of my head.  My tag was tucked under my Fender tag when I removed it.

I have seen those before but they seem to be a square coin style tag versus the long narrow one as posted by Ramman - was wondering if that was just unique to the LA Assembly plant.  That is what I heard but I know each factory varied in assembly and process.

Do you mean the coins like this?

Not specific to LA on any of the inspection tags.

As I recall ( I can't go look as we have 2 foot of snow right now)  the long inspection tag has sections for different parts of the car.  Paint, body, interior, etc.
As it went through the line I think there would have been a line inspector that put his stamp on the inspection tag.  When the car got to the end of the line they would break the
tag off at the lines that cross it.  leaving nothing but a little piece under the screw and fender tag.

I wasn't there, I wasn't born.  I am only going on what I have picked up over some years. This is kind of my two cents anyway from seeing so many tags.

Alan,  Does this help the value of a car when this is involved with all the other tags, paper work, numbers, etc. etc. ????
