Disc Brake Swap
« on: April 06, 2015 - 02:36:26 PM »
Found this on eBay. Has anyone used this kit? Seems like an excellent price for the parts. I pieced my last set together and this seems like a great deal.

Looks like a good deal - same price at performanceonline.com BTW (https://www.performanceonline.com/62-74-MOPAR-Chrysler-Dodge-Plymouth-Disc-Brake-Conversion-Kit/).  I would be surprised if this is not a Just Brakes kit, I also would want to know where this is made so you are not buying cheap junk.  Be sure you have enough vacuum when converting to power discs.

I had to send back a just brakes kit because the kit I got didn't even have the provision for ebrake at the rear.

I running that kit on my 69 Charger or one similar to it.  Mine came from Right Stuff Detailing but I think they are all coming from the same manufacturer and are based off of a 76 Cordoba setup.  I have no complaints with my setup   Stops way better then the factory Power 11inch Drums  :2thumbs:

Think the price is close or just about what I paid from Classic industries with a discount - Its been awhile but a lot of places sell that kit  :2cents:

Falbz - did your Charger have a front sway bar?  I head you need to make sure the calipers mount to the rear if it does.  Also, did you have to get a larger booster?

The benefit to the ebay deal would probably be free shipping.

Yes I did have to mount the calipers on the rear for the sway bar and clearance even though I'm not running one atm.  I did mount them initially on the front but the calipers hit the sway bar tabs when fully turned. As for the booster I did swap out the midland ross one (power drums originally) to a new MPM Bendix style one.

These kits are not US made either.  Part of kit, if not all, is from China.  I did get a letter  from RSD months later saying there was a bad batch of spindles and I could swap my set out if I had any issues.  Mine have held up great though as they could not tell which batch it was. Luckily I've had no problems.

Also down the road if you need replacement pads, calipers, bearing seals etc you can go into any auto store and have them look up brakes for a 76 Chrysler Cordoba  :2cents:

Are the spindles the same as Córdoba spindles? Are they taller than the old e body spindles?

I'm not sure as I went from drum brake spindles to these.  I'd have to look at my original Cuda ones and compare them to ones on charger. I know there are conversion threads that outline kits you can piece together and would tell you.

I have been doing a bit of research on disc brake swaps as I have 2 to do.....'73 Dart Sport and '70 Cuda. Are the spindles in this kit forged or cast? I don't see too many people concerned about this but I am. Shouldn't spindles be forged like they were when built? Is there something i'm missing?  :dunno:

We recently converted our 1972 Duster over to front Disc from theramman.com

He uses all Mopar parts - nothing that I saw in the conversion was Chinese.  Wayne knows his stuff!  We kept the small bolt pattern, but can still be converted large bolt pattern if we ever put new axles and brakes in the back.

I'm sure it was more than $400 - can't remember because we also put in a Firm Feel full susension kit and Stage II box at the same time.  And power booster and master cylinder and proportioning valve and gas tank and sending unit.  That was a busy weekend!!
