Body Filler of Choice?

I am just about through welding up holes and old mounts in my engine bay and would like to skim coat a good portion of the engine bay and knock it down smooth. I would like you hear what body filler you have used and recommend.

The end result will involve some epoxy primer and likely PPG paint, I am not sure if there are many compatibility problems with filler or not.

Duraglass/Evercoat Version (Fiberglass stranded filler) and Rage Gold/Extreme are the two names I have consistently seen across all boards, with the extensive searching I've done over the last couple years.

Is it best practice to apply filler to bare metal, then primer. Or primer over bare metal then filler?

Ideally I would like to primer, filler, primer then continue on with the project before final paint.

What I'm concerned with is grease/oil on the primer before color as I install mock up the engine as such.

Should I be able to clean the primer well enough to not worry before color?  I have a lot to do yet and do not want to worry about color in the engine bay but would like to get things smoothed up and protected from the elements.

Epoxy prime. Wax and grease remover real good. Done deal. I'd still consider taping some layers of plastic up over it too.

These work really good to see highlights of the bodywork you've done by spraying wax and grease remover on after you've finished an area you've worked on.

With good lighting, it will create the highs and lows to stand out.

epoxy primer is good dupont now owned by exalta makes a product called vera-prime self etching primer  you can put filler over. grease and wax remover will clean up any oils or grease you have. guide coat will help to find the hi and low spots, all guide coat is is a over reduced paint product., i hope this helps and as far as filler go's i agree with the others evercoat and rave and use a good serfacer hi build urathain primer
