radiator options?
« on: April 09, 2015 - 11:41:27 PM »
Took my original 73 radiator (3673024) to have it checked and redone.  The shop called back and said it was not worth redoing.  They said it was cracked on all 4 corners (dry rotted) and it was completely full of mud dobbers.  Which did not surprise me since we found more than a few nests while tearing the car down.  Anyway, they said it was not repairable.  So other than an aluminum aftermarket or super expensive Glen Ray, what other options?  Trying to keep a stock look and not break the bank.

In looking over some options I noticed Classic Industries has the OER replacements for right around $400.  Anyone had an experience with one of those? :dunno:

Got one from them over a year ago. Looks and works like the original. Only grief is the bolt holes are close to the core for mounting the fan shroud. I welded four nuts so that I can bolt it on and not using the factory screws.

I bought a Spectra radiator off Rockauto a few years back for a stock 318. Swapped that out for a stroked out 360 still no overheating issues. Only draw back I found was no place to mount the shroud, but I have an idea for some brackets to mount the shroud just havent got around to it yet.

Champion 3 core works with Factory shroud and clutch fan with no cooling issues. Just a little adjustment to one hole when mounting radiator.

Take it somewhere else. You can have a new core installed. They just reuse your original upper and lower tanks as well as the mounting brackets. It will be good as new with a new core. Glen Ray does recores too. I think it runs around $500 for them to do a recore. It cost me $400 to have mine done at a place here in Iowa.
