So what do these sit in for seat release buttons?
« on: April 13, 2015 - 10:04:29 PM »
On a 71 Cuda, I have the metal seat frames, and the plastic back covers that house the release button on the side. But the white bushings "circled in red" in the picture on the push button don't rest in the hole of the seat frame. It slides right thru. The hole is larger so there is no spring action to hold the button against the plastic back/side cover. So there is no spring action.
The hole looks to be a manufacturer design.

What am I missing? :dunno:

Thanks in advance,
Tom

Is this how it came apart ? meaning did these buttons and seats backs come with the frames and latches ? Maybe you have the 70-71 style latches using the seat backs with the metal hinge covers ?

Thanks guys.

Mark. Google search isn't any help with this subject at hand. Not even part stores, at least from my searches.
This is the button style in the 71 cuda and challenger as well. I figured something would be out there but I'm not having any luck.

Here is a pic of it installed in a challenger.

Alan, I received parts in baggies with naked frames. I had to order the buttons and seat backs. The seat back panel matches with the frame and the button fits in the hole for the single piece seat back panel but nothing is keeping the button pushed out. The button does line up with the latch release lever inside the frame.

Is the seat frames different with the metal hinge covers versus the single piece back panel?

I know that chrome button was introduced mid-way through the 1971 model year, like I've said, I don't recall having restored a 71 with them, or at least not enough to be familiar which the possible differences in latch mechanisms that would not allow that white stopper to rest against something.

The earlier style, the black button, gets it's spring action from being attached to the hinge cover itself.

we have the chrome release button, but the seats are intact and don't have any pics of seat apart.

Charlie is truckin' so when he returns, I'll see if he'll take that seat apart. Not sure that is going to happen though.

Alan, it might be the 70 and earlier 71 style seat frame has a different sized hole or something that fits in there for the white stopper to rest against.

Judy, thanks for supplying the pic. That's what I'm installing. If the hubby gets home and feels like getting into it, that would be awesome. If not, I totally understand that too.

I have figured out a work around if I have the wrong frame by attaching a washer behind the hole for the white stopper to rest on and provide spring action for the button. Good thing, the hole aligns up with the release latch like its supposed to.

Thanks everyone for their inputs.
