That's what happens if you do a full nut and bolt "OE"restoration in a month.  :roflsmiley:

Maybe the guy is mistaking the black out on the cowel as not painted  :clueless:  :smilielol:

You would think they at least tried to work out all the bugs before they ship it to a customer what do they expect.

A relative from my wife's side of the family in Oregon had Mark restore a car for him. I sold Mark some parts for it.
It's already done and he has it at home. Been out to a couple shows and got some hardware.  :ylsuper:  :clapping:
It will be featured this season. I set my DVR to record it. I haven't been down to see it yet but plan to when I have the time.
He didn't already own a Mopar, this car was picked by Bob out of the Graveyard to be restored. I approve of his choice.  He loves it!  :2thumbs:
Built to the fender tag. Not sure if there is a build sheet, I never asked... Can't wait to get our cars together.

Maybe I am a minority here but I am a fan of GYC simply because it is a show centered on Mopars.  I am also looking forward to the new season since they are promoting more focus on the restoration and minimizing the drama, but some is to be expected since it is on TV.  I have been following a restoration of a HEMI Charger and it has been in the trailers for this season.  I was disappointed to find out that the person who waited years and paid A LOT recently received his car and it had a list of issues. The guy used Reliable Carriers to ship his car, and granted that some things do happen during shipment across the country but the list was rather extensive:

Yeah I wish Things were better so I could at least drive the car,  Mark says car was fine when it left Oregon but will reimburse me for whatever it costs to take care of the problems .So I guess as long as he keeps his word its not the end of the world. But I don't get reimbursed for my time, I leave for work at 4:15 in the morning and don't get home until around 6pm so my home time is very valuable to me.(as it is with most of us) Here is a list of some of the problems!!

1.No brake lights , flashers,or turn  signals

2. headlight doors do not work

3. Exhaust is 2" to far back and bangs on the car when you hit a bump

4. No windshield washer nozzle on the drivers side

5. Missing paint on  cowl ( primer visible)

6. Dome light doesn't work when turned on by switch on dashboard

7 radio doesn't work

8. Left turn signal indicator on dash doesn't work

9. Gas gauge, oil pressure gauge not working properly ( I am hoping the temperature gauge is accurate so I don't let it overheat and cause damage to the engine)

10. There is a relay in the dash that is making a popping noise constantly, when it makes the noise the ammeter      .

jumps..  Not sure what this is all about?

 11. Front windows don't roll down without putting extreme pressure on the crank

 12. A lot of rattles in the entire car (and I've only driven it a mile to my buddies gas station and home.
  13. Engine has a few oil leaks

Hopefully there will not be to much added to the list after I get to drive it for a while!!!

Sounds like Mark followed through and now a happier situation with that car..  :2thumbs:

"Put the part Mark sent me in today all lights that werent working fixed  passed inspection...I gotta say Mark has stepped up to the plate on this he has sent me parts overnight..talked to me constantly on the phone and actually called my mechanic and spoke to him for an hour sent schematics and told him to fix all problems at GYC cost....He even offered to pay for my time that I am taking to remedy the problems..... The rest of the car is beautiful and it shows the work they put in... While mark and myself dont see eye to eye all the time he still is doing the right thing!!"

It does look like it worked out, in fact the owner has now won 2 best in show at local events.  However, is it a realistic expectation that if you spend $60k+ on a complete restoration with a top notch shop that there will be a list of issues when the owner gets the car?  I would expect most if not all the bugs be worked out since the shop has time to do test drives and work over the car some.  In fact, that was something Mark commented on in the last episode the he now has time to do test drives since they get the cars done earlier.  If I remember correctly, Mark did a burn out in the red Cuda (the one with the Magnum Force set up) and broke something in the rear brakes.  I would rather have that happen while at the shop than on the first cruise when I get the car.

Alan, or someone else with a shop, do you test drive the cars when your done?  Is there usually some issues to fix when your clients get their cars?

Interesting question.

Few facts first...
I'm not a big shop, only a small one man operation.
I have business insurance that covers my shop and inventory, etc...Not driving cars.
I do not have a dealer's plate which would allow me to drive uninsured customer's vehicles.
I'm not a licensed mechanic so I can not preform a safety inspection in order to legally drive the cars.

Out of the 25-26 cars that I've restored for other people, there's only about 4 that I've driven at all. That was only after the owner had the car inspected and licensed and insured. I'm not taking ANY chances driving some one's car illegally.

For the most part, all of my customers took there car to their own mechanic and had an inspection of my work done and a safety certificate written. If they have any issues, I hope I can deal with them before they leave. If something comes up after, I try my best to help get it fixed.

Before leaving, I make sure all the electrical works, make sure the brake are decent, then I trailer it to my mechanic for a front end alignment and have them double check the brakes. Then off she goes, again on a trailer.

I recently had a long distance customer insist that his car get driven to get the bugs out. I had my mechanic drive the car (with his dealer plate) and it was a good thing because the engine developed a tick and the transmission was having difficulty shifting. So now that the car is here, I can get these items solved, and the car will be 100% when the customer gets it. Otherwise I guess the car would have to come back once properly insured so I could test drive it.

Either way....I'm glad GYC is standing behind their work, I had no doubt they would...The internet is a power source of information, good and bad. One tiny match can start a huge forest fire :villagers:

Alan said it right! I am A one man operation also. in New York state we can get transporter plates, I will usually tow it to my guy for the alignment,  drive it back about 5 miles. my alignment guy is A vary good mechanic and aware of the situation and looks things over on his lift. I advise the owners if it dose not have insurance before this point to do so. I like haggerty and they like me, I have repaired A wreck or two through them. no one is perfect but the primer showing through should have been caught before it left the shop, as much as the car gets fondled and looked over checked and double checked.

I was able to watch SE5/EP3 last night and I wasn't too impress.
I know it's probably just me, but I don't really enjoy Marks attempt at humour...In the paint booth they went on and on about some stupid hand signals, why not spend the time talking about different painting techniques ?
Then again, like with the exhaust manifolds, he belittle's is own daughter and makes her look like an idiot on National television...explaining to her about the detailing marks on the transmission and how to tell the difference of which side is which :screwy: seriously ?
Not to mention that they put the white/red number tag on the wrong axle tube, it should be on the driver's side and no Dana 60 that I'm aware of got the yellow three number part stamp on it.... :clueless:

I think when a person has to tell the whole world, repeatedly, how great he is.....that's usually the furthest from the truth..... :-X

Again, like the show, can't stand the guy :2cents:

How about block sanding the trunk lid well after the car is painted. :screwy:  With any metallic colour those panels should be painted on the car.  :2cents:
