Rare Find
« on: April 16, 2015 - 12:52:04 PM »
My father has a knack for finding cars, I actually think they find him. He recently met the original owner of this 70 V code Cuda and sent me a few pictures. Pretty funny story behind the car, actually. I guess the owner is sort of a Chevy guy and went into his local Chevy dealership in 1970 and order a brand new Corvette. In his words, he negotiated an incredible deal on a brand new Corvette, but the dealership made excuses for months as to why the car was never delivered. Thinking that he made TOO good of a deal and that the dealer was purposely making excuses, he drove down the street to his local Plymouth dealer and bought this off the showroom floor. As the story goes, he drove it for many years until the motor blew up and he's just never gotten around to restoring it. 440-6pk, shaker hood, front and rear rubber bumpers, ralley dash, whats not too love?

No, the owner hasn't really decided what he wants to do with it.

Yeah, but it makes me puke when they start the old "one of these days, me and the boy are gonna restore that car" and you know both that it'll never happen and that they'd rather see it turn into rust than let someone else actually restore it. Who knows though, MAYBE, this guy is the one in a hundred who'd give someone else a shot at it. Hope springs eternal!  :working:

I'm not suppossed to reveal this but what the heck...they'll never let me back there again anyway since they keep it locked up and never are there.

I ran into a warehouse full of un restored Cuda's earlier this year.

Probably 30 of them there. 2 were R codes. 28 Hemi engines.
More parts and rare cars than I have ever seen than many of the barn finds yet.

Sworn to secrecy to the whereabouts.

Oh c'mon Topcat....that's just a TEASE!  :pullinghair:

All the cars were rust free. They looked like time capsules with dust on them.
Psychedelic paint jobs were on a few, others with custom striipes.

There was an AAR on a rack almost finished.
Enderle fuel injection manifolds, Super rare cross ram set ups, Boxes of Rallye guages.
The list would take a whole thread from what I've seen.

I'm tellin ya and it was no Bullsh*t; it was the Holy Grail of Cuda stuff.
He told me he had been collecting for over 30 years.

He's super paranoid.
I wasn't allowed to take any pictures. I was watched closely when I was there.

I went by there everyday for almost 3 weeks straight, and his door is stil closed.
I keep going by every week hoping to build trust and rapport. It's been 4 months now without contact.

As long as the car is stored properly, I have no ill feelings towards someone who won't sell a car they'll never restore. It's the cars that are crumbling back into the ear in someone's back yard that kill me. There is a guy 5 minutes from my house with a hemi GTX sitting in his back yard. Hasn't touched it in decades, but just won't sell it. By the time someone else actually gets their hands on it there may not be much car left to save. I have not met the owner of the cuda in this thread, but it's hard to fault a guy who has owned a car 45 years. At that point it's practically part of his family.

Well atleast the ones in the warehouse are protected it sounds like.  I know of one or two places like that I would like to visit eventually out west.  It's great when you don't have to deal with the cold and rust as much!

Reminds me of this barn, all Hemi and 6-pack Challengers... and one Max Wedge car.
