Shaker Bubble Black paint
« on: April 18, 2015 - 12:06:25 AM »
Shaker bubble showed up today.

I want to paint it the correct black finish.

I know it's a little glossier than Organosol.

What did you use? How did you prep the fiberglass to paint it?
Do I need to epoxy primer it?

Hi
If it came as raw fiberglass I would prime it .
Then paint it with PPG DCC 9355. Add 3oz of dx1999 to one unreduced quart of paint.
This will give you the proper texture.
This is what I used and it passed OEM Gold judging at the nats.

Don't forget to clean it really well with wax and grade remover. You can use a scotch brite while scrubbing

I went to my local auto Body supply store and Steve the owner who is pretty knowledgeable said he couldn't cross reference any of his brands he carries to the PPG DCC 9355.

The nearest PPG dealer I know of is in Salinas which is about 60 miles from me.
Santa Cruz PPG dealer shut down a few years ago.

If no PPG dealer close , I would look at getting paint from Badelson or Totally auto.
While it is not what I mentioned it will work.
Just not as easy to work with.
A bubble is a small enough area you shouldn't have a problem.

Be sure to pre order the DX 1999 As no one stocks it but can order it.
