The bronze tip ones are for the steel core cams that are incompatible with regular steel rods which can gall steel on steel. Like CP says, check the length against a known good/new one.

I have the same issue with my 340 but no boiling of fuel. I have my carb tuned with vacuum gauge. I am getting ready to check my air fuel ratio with a fast system. I got my timing set at 12 base and 36 full.
If I find out what is the issue I will let you know.
Its just a little 340 with a miss

Yeah, I did adjust timing at the end of the last incident of boiling, that helped with lessening popping thru exhaust when letting off gas.
I am guessing a combination of fuel and timing tuning will yield benefits.

I know on mine I got 6.5psi at the carb with a fuel return line ran so I can say no vapor lock on mine. As far as the carb I got a quick fuel 650 hot rod double pumper. I have not put a jet in it yet. But it starts better with this one then the 750 I had on it.

Decided to start with replacing the incorrect carb with original Carter .
The throttle bore, main venturi and main jet are about 13% large

Carb is now off, will add 1/2'' spacer , then go from there using info from all.

$8.50 for 110 leaded...

Try your local small airport.  I get unleaded 110 av grade gas at my local airport for 3.46 a gallon.  You have to take the gas cans to get filled up as you cant drive up and have the tank filled up, but thats worth the inconvience

I've read AV gas is not good for our cars. Missing some important stuff.

Will check that , have a local airport that looks like they have 100LL at about 4.70.

Installed the new carb and spacer tonight.
It fired up quick and idled well, no having to keep pumping the gas like always.
Slight fuel line leak at inlet, need to tighten a little more, I know no teflon, let the flare do it's job

Still will check the other suggestions, pushrod length, fuel pressure , adjustments, timing etc.
Thank you everyone!!!

Engine started good and was idling nice and smooth and then stalled.
Could not get it to restart , so tried a new MSD blaster coil .
Started once then died.
Think it's time to install the distributor and box.
Wanted to try to evaluate just changing the carb then the ignition but looks like that wont happen.

After reading earlier posts in a different topic, and seeing that my fuel filter is before the pump, I will remove the filter from that side.

I also ordered a fuel pump and pushrod.

It started on Sunday great and idled smooth as glass , but would not restart, very little fuel sprayed in when hand working throttle.
