The Dist has nothing to do with those , I had a stock dist in my 440 which I shifted at 7000 rpm for 10 years , the advance curve is somewhat more adjustable in the MSD . everything else is controlled but the ECU , even MSD only multi sparks until 3000 rpm , approx when the engine gets into the power band & starts making serious power

I have seen the MSD fail just as fast & a warranty won't pay the $250 tow bill home !!
2 for $100 & the first could outlast the MSD

Yes your right, for 50 bucks carry a spare. It's cheaper than the flatbed home!

Certainly there has to be some significant differences, in quality and function, between the below MSD distributor,
and a $50 Chinese special?? I mean, who wants their distributor to "lunch" itself at 6000 rpm?

The $50 distributor could be made at the same Chinese factory as MSD, but QC rejected it due to minor flaws. So now it's sold on eBay instead of scrapping. Just a theory.

Really a distributor is a very simple piece. It doesn't even have roller bearings. I say give it a try and tell us how it works. Not much to lose.

There sure is a lot of speculation, on how long it can operate before flinging it's innards all over. Look at one and you can see it's not adjustable in the traditional sense, no gimmicks to fiddle with. But it can be adjusted. The billet housing ain't going to blow up, nor the permanent magnet and it's reluctor. Maybe the ball bearings will go chinese fire drill on you. Nope nothing wrong. Just an over produced part with plenty of competition. If someone got an introductory manufacturing deal on over runs done when the regular production was away, then that explains the obvious under charge. It's not for a race car, just H.P. street as advertised. The manufacturer was tricked into thinking that they would have additional orders. Those foreign idot's have no idea of how many we will eventually need, and that's few since it's obsolete technology suitable for old cars, only. You, also can return it if not satisfied. How many people will actually need a mechanical dist. with out an economy vacuum advance, for H.P. street?   5 in my city, maybe.

About everything in Walmart is from China.

But, bottom line, since we value our cars, we probably
buy the best quality we can afford.

I'll second that. I haven't had any problems, but now I'm thinking of driving with some spare parts.

This has really peaked my interest because of the huge price difference. Every one makes good points on you generally get what you pay for and the few people that tried them on here say it worked fine. They sell a lot of them on E-Bay so I'm going to see if I can ask some of the people who bought them their opinions. I'll let everyone know what I find out.

Ebay feedback on seller of the distributor.  But 99% of his feedback is positive

about 27 negative, and about 3800 positive

I went thru about 60 pages of positive feed back and most of the feedback was for Chevy stuff. I did a few for that distributor but I can't figure out how to contact the person that bought it. E-bay does not list the full buyer identity.
