Blasted the car yesterday
« on: April 19, 2015 - 12:56:02 PM »
Well, After getting several outrageous quotes to blast my car I decided to try it myself. Very glad I did as it actually wasn't that bad. I Still have to do the front end so I'm glad its raining as I'm felling it today!

You forgot to take the shifter out   :22yikes:     :roflsmiley:  Nice work, I like the way you opened up the rear frame rails to get inside   :2thumbs:

Looks great!

What media did you use?

I just used Corn husk's to blast a whole log cabin.  Used it on a few of my metal parts while I was there and it worked great for the paint.

Thanks, I knew the car needed a truck pan so I decided to remove the old one so I could blast inside the frame rails. I am very fortunate to have found a car in great shape. It only had heavy surface rust on the rear of the frame rails, takes a little longer to remove. The interior, roof structure and floor pans were easy.
I had tried a few different types of media when I was blasting small parts with my 60 Gallon compressor (crushed glass, course silica sand). I found fine silica sand to work the best for me and the blaster use.

I actually did that to weld in the leaf spring relocation kit. I just couldn't weld it in properly under the car, nice and easy welding from the top!

Did you rent that industrial trailer compressor I see in your photo? What do they charge for that per day?

I think he said that was his 60 gallon. After looking into getting my car done I started researching what I would need to do it on my own. Looked mostly at soda because of the environmental reasons and how it makes a film so you don't have to epoxy prime right away. Another bonus to doing it yourself is that you can pick up work on the side to pay for the equipment and help your friends out when they need blasting.

I got a smoking deal on the industrial compressor, $50.00....Friday night to Monday morning!
110 PSI and 145 CFM, it rocked.

Did you open up your outer wheel tub to run wider tires? Ive been thinking the same as there is quite a bit of room between the outer wheel tub and quarter.
