One of those "on the fence" issues...For every one person that tells you they were natural, there will be one telling you they were painted black.

The cars I've restored from this area never show any black on them, they are always rusted...meaning natural in my books :2cents:

Black is correct.   Mine looked bare metal too.  However, when I started stripping it, black paint showed up.  The paint was very cheap and started flaking off early on.  If you soak the housing in something like EvapoRust, it will remove the rust and show any left over black paint.

So Alan, do you leave them natural, or paint maybe a cast iron color paint. I'm thinking about using the Seymour Stainless paint. Our box is already showing rust.   :stomp:

I never leave anything bare....I will paint it cast and even a satin clear on top of that. I use tinted clears as well. "smoke" clear looks good over cast iron, gives it a more natural look :2cents: ...Lately if they come back from the re-builders black, I'll leave them black. I've installed two from Firm Feel which also come black.

Thanks man, I just tryed a section with the Seymour SS, looks really good, just a little brighter than cast look.
