If you want to build a really nice car I figure about $10k to professionally build the engine, check out the Trans and Dana and buy a new clutch, exhaust etc. Figure about $5k for anything missing and things like new seat skins, carpet,  wheels, tires, weatherstripping and such. Another $5k for unknowns. If you can't do it yourself then whatever labour would cost.
I just did a basketcase last year so my costs will be pretty close and I've done enough cars to know what it takes. I do everything myself though from exhaust to building engines to doing the wheel alignment. If you want to cheap out on stuff or have a few parts that will be needed it will go cheaper of course.
I figure the bodywork/paint and a few of the parts are worth the asking and it's a real U-code. If a guy was to fix up his g-code automatic car and swap in a 440 and get it painted it would cost more in the end that what this car will cost.

For me to do it for you....I would say easily $25K-$30K for a stock type resto...

Thanks Alan, was curious as I didn't know the condition of the drive train etc.  I love the color combo, though I would probably want to add a white interior.  Seems like a solid price assuming the body/paint is as good as it looks in photos.

Sheldon, I hear you on the price of this car vs doing a clone.  I have quite a lot in my Cuda clone right now, and it's a driver.  At least its a vert I guess.

A vert is a winner no matter what. I liked the body and paint on the car the car is straight and the paint is nice and flat. I believe Dean said it was the original trunk floor so that gives an idea as too how good the body is.
Most of the trim is already polished, the grill and hl doors are refinished, bumpers are rechromed, new dashpad, gauges are restored. It has subframe connectors which is kind of a negative for me but it could be a bonus for someone else.

Thank you for the review on the paint...Dean described it to me, pretty much the same way, but it's nice to hear another opinion.

I think we're in agreement here. For any one who has ever done a complete restoration, there is no way you could get a car to this point with this quality and the new parts that come with it....there's no way you could do it cheaper....in my opinion, it's like you're getting the car for free.

The frame connectors were a big disappointment for me as well. That coupled with the lack of documentation and non original motor....Makes this car a great candidate for a resto-mod.....and there's not too many original cars I would say that about...  Picture: Stock appearing, original colours, yet 17" Rally wheels, 4 wheel discs, big sway bars, etc....

Alan: Yeah, I was kind of leaning towards putting the matching #'s 340 back in my A66 and putting my 528 in the green car (but you'd still have a U-code if you ever wanted to 440 it and sell it). The car is a lot rarer than a Six Pack automatic though...
I even thought of putting a normal rear window in it and changing the top and stripes to black too, but I feel guilty when I change stuff.

Sorry for the delay but I was not sure what the asking price was as I had been talking to the owner about a possible trade.

Here is a link to the ad on Moparts. The car looks very good, and colored interior is a big bonus to me. I just do not want another project at this time as I have a few on the go.

I like the blue/blue combo....It's not an RT/SE, so it's not quite as rare, and I think it's expensive :2cents:

Yes the blue one may be high but somebody could be driving that one next week according to the seller.
If the green Challenger was in Ontario it would be gone.
I think Sheldon gas the right idea with that car, jam a Hemi in there and be done.

142 U code 4 speeds versus 161 V codes auto's, Not what I would call a lot rarer. :dunno:

Still, I don't get it?  In 1970 they built more V code Challengers with the 4 speed than the automatic.:clueless:
