Bare bumpers?

Does anyone know of a source for bare Challenger bumpers?

When you say bare do you mean not chromed?  I don't think any buddy sales one without chrome.  You will have to have them striped.

Roseville sells Keystone bumpers.  They are made in China but the chrome is done in Wisconsin.  Maybe Dave would have a way of getting ahold of an unchromed set?

Dave says no un-chromed bumpers available on his end.

It i9s kind of funny that we can not get them unchromed.  I know there is not a big demand for them...however they are stamped from raw steel and then sent to be chromed.  :clueless:  So why not make somne available for the guys who want to have painted bummpers...to save them a step or two.

I took my chrome bumpers to a powder coater who acid diped them and then powder coated them, he did it all for $100. They turned out good and have held up well....going on two years now.

if painted bumpers is what you are after, I would suggest getting good cores from someone and sanding them with 60 or 80 grit (use a power sander if you have it), then hit them with self-etching primer, some filler primer, sand them and paint them.

I painted my bumpers 20 years ago and they help up just fine.  I did the front again, and a decent rear core, 2 years ago with spray bomb primers and they held up just fine.

Like anything paint related, it is all in the prep.

I've also read where chrome shops can "dechrome" parts for you.  I guess they can reverse the process.  I don't know what they would charge for something like this though.

So you don't have to sand the chrome off, just scuff it well and paint will stick? With self etching primer that is.

I'm going the painted look and went with AAR fiberglass bumpers. They were relatively cheap, great quality and super light(~4lbs each). I am saving my chrome originals in case I decide to go back one day...

I had thought about fiberglass. The consensus appears to be that they all require fairly significant prep work, including some reshaping.

Yeah, I know I can strip the chrome...but that's what I was trying to avoid  I figured that if I didn't want the chrome anyway, getting the bumper without the chrome would save me time, and hopefully money.
