10" Torque Converter ???
« on: April 29, 2015 - 08:06:08 AM »
I am trying to identify this 10" torque converter to find out the stall on it. There is no name on it only two numbers: 901057 and 40314  JC on the bottom. Does anybody know where to start? I have googled the numbers but nothing comes up. It's out of a 70 Cuda. The Cuda did have a big block Hemi (not original) Morton in it. I am putting a 440 back in it.

I tried this last year and there is no way to tell for sure unless you have some kind of paperwork.  You can either guess/hope that it is standard for your engine, or order a new one to be sure.

The actual stall speed/rpm of a convertor varies depending on the motor combination. IE the same convertor will flash to a different rpm behind a stock 340 small block, than behind a high torque big block. My suggestion would be as follows: if you currently know your engine combination, rear gear, and tire size, send this convertor to a reputable convertor company. (TCI/ATI/Coan or others) They can cut your convertor open and tune it for your setup, as well as make sure it is ok and worth the effort. Also bear in mind, all convertors are not created equal. This process should be cheaper than new, and you will know what you have in the end.
