1970 console top plate

I have a 1970 e body console top plate.   What is the difference between the automatic and 4 speed top plates?  Do the numbers on the back identify it?

YES totally different shape as well

Autos have a full rectangular opening, while the 4 speeds look rectangular, but have a rounded tip to let the boot sit tight to the plate.

I'm looking for a manual one for my Challenger, how much should a used one cost? I believe that because of few manuals made back then it will be expensive. Where to buy a new if can't find a used one?

 Brewers performance and Mega Parts are two retailers that have reproduction top plates.  I am sure there are others.

Here is a reproduction on ebay. I have not personally used a repop one, but have heard they need trimming to get the right fit.

Good luck finding a used / original one , there are a lot of car being converted to 4 spd & 1000 buyers for everyone that comes up .

Should I attempt to cut the auto one and put that in place or it would be lost cause?

I guess that would depend on what your budget is and what you want you finished product to look like

Not sure what your budget is, but I would not consider cutting the good original auto one and making an attempt to fit it for the 4 speed. The openings are about 3-4 inches different. You would have to take the part you cut and attempt to attach it to the plate to recenter it for the shifter. As difficult as the repos are stated to need some work to get a good fit, the repo would be the better choice.

it is not as simple as cutting it larger they are not in the same place so you need to fill it part of it as well
