72-74 Cuda Body Conversion to a 70
« on: May 05, 2015 - 10:59:23 PM »
:dunno:  Anyone know what the differences are between bodies from a 70 and 72-74 Cuda? Contemplating converting a 72-4 body to a 70. I have wanted a 70 for years and am having a heck of a time finding a decent affordable 70, so thinking about converting a 72-74 into a 70. Any help identifying everything that has to be changed to make it correct would be appreciated!!!!

There are a lot of threads here about that subject as it has been discussed plenty but off the top of my head . .   The front header panel and grill, all the side marker lights, the real tail panel and taillights, front lower valance  . . . . I guess it depends on how detailed you want to be . . . . I think the mirrors are a 1 year item, dash pieces are 70 special, seat belts on year only, console is one year only, seats are different, dash pad is different  . . . Gauges are different and the list goes on and on.

And with that information, our recommendation would be to pick out the "must haves" from the list, price the parts out along with any labor you may need and then decide if it's worth it to you.  I vote yes!

I guess initially I'm concerned with the body differences. I know the tail panel, fenders and quarters are different. Wondering what the differences in floor pans, trunk pan, bracing, inner fenders, cowl, firewall...ect. That kind of stuff. Wondering sheet metal wise what I would need to replace to make it a "correct " 70. Also wondering if the inner body structures are the same, thus allowing 70 quarters, inner fenders, tail panel, ect to be welded to the tub.

There are literately hundreds of small insignificant differences in the floor pans and inner structure from a 1970 to a 73-72. HOWEVER the tail panel and quarters will fit just the same  as well as the front clip.
Currently I'm converting a 73 Barracuda into a 71, check out my web site. http://www.alangallantautomotiverestoration.com/71-RESTOMOD-HEMICUDA.html
I've taught you everything you know.....but I haven't taught you everything I know !
