Door Panel Instalation Help - Do these parts make sense.
« on: May 06, 2015 - 07:37:50 AM »
I decided to start tackling my door panel and exterior door handle replacement.

Got the Drivers side panel off fine but it clearly was not attached right. Swapped out my broken door handle new on in and working no issues.

When it came time to re assemble the panel to be put back in the car I want to put it back together right. The pull cups and the bracket that attaches to it do not seem right. When I pulled it off the bolts did not line up and only one bolt was used to hold the arm rest pad and it was on a crazy angle because it clearly did not line up. Does anyone have a picture of how the metal bracket that attaches the door pull to the frame of the door goes. I took a couple of pictures with the links below so you can see what I am talking about. I also was thinking maybe the bracket was the passenger side one that was incorrectly mounted on the drivers side? IT's a drivers side door, 1974 Challenger.

Door Cup pull installed from the back of the panel the same way as it came off:

Me holding the bracket on how it came off the car (the way I assume is incorrect as only one bolt lines up)

Bracket in question:

I don't normally work on the floor but it had better light for a picture.
Thanks for any help!

let's assume they are the same on the challenger and cuda...what does the other side of that bracket bolt too? those 2 small bolts that hold on the elbow pad to the door panel?

also since your pictures goes against what I had in my mind, the pull cups and bracket should be attached tot he door first or the door panel first?

thank you for the picture! it's going to be a lifesaver.

yes, the two small bolts screw into the armrest/elbow pad to the door panel.
Attach to the panel first, then to the door.
In the pic, I was just checking alignment of the bracket and cup.
I can provide pics later today of the armrest installed on the door panel before install.

Thanks Tom!

Sorry for the delay. We had heavy rains (6+ inches in a couple hours), very high winds and tornadoes in the area last night. Sirens went off all evening long. I had a couple large trees snapped and had to get that cleaned up today. Luckily we survived another one.
Here is a pic I took really quick. Not the best pic but shows how the bracket is attached to the panel and armrest and then the cup. This is how you want it before installing your door panel.

74 challenge (or anyone else!)- did you figure this out for the Challenger. I have all the same bits but can't work out how the plate goes. The larger holes fit under the cup  and bolt through into the door, but what do the other holes bolt to?
