Whats your opinion ?
« on: May 06, 2015 - 07:52:05 PM »
Ok-I am not looking for an argument or to hurt anyone's feeling but I have to be honest here and as awesome as the new Hellcat Challenger is it has a very lack luster appearance. A guy  I work with just got one and naturally I had to check it out and I was very unimpressed buy it's looks. A car with such power and technology looks like a plain jane taxi cab. The lack of brite trim-stripes and down right boring wheels really does nothing for this car. I am considering selling my 70 and getting one but I would have to immediately add some bling. A nice set of side or hood or both stripes and some CHROME wheels to start. You look at the photo I put together below and see what car catches your eye first. Maybe I am just old school but the all the new cars lack the WOW factor in looks.
Just my opinion.

One thing to consider is your Vert Challenger will always be unique, and worth more than a Hellcat in a year or two once they catch up on backorders and start rolling out more and more Hellcats.  You also can order one with extra "bling" if you want, after all except for the hood there is really no difference between the Hellcat and the Challenger on the outside.

Alot of people like that stealth look . . . sleeper car with huge power used to be very desireable . . . and a money maker.  Everyone would look at it and think just a plain jane . . . but little do they know . . . . lol.   :bananasmi

...the HellCat you pictured is the equivalent of a 1970 HEMI Cuda, white, black interior, no stripes and "dog dish" hub caps, a pretty cool car......I like the Tor Red on the HellCats

NO way I would do that , the Helcat drops in value as soon as you drive it the 70 will be difficult to replace
Helcat hood has an AAR center scoop with twin openings beside as outlets

The '70 will always be more eye catching than a modern Challenger.  :2cents: The modern Challenger will beat your '70 in all other respects though. ie handling, horse power, reliability...

I wanted to buy a Hellcat as well. But you can't use it's performance much without ending up in jail and I have always loved 70 Challengers and I think they are one of the nicest styled cars ever built. I'm keeping my 70 and I'm going to drive it more than ever.

To each his own, recon we're on the opposite end of the spectrum... I didn't want the chrome clad wheels every dealer stocked R/T seemed to have & was prepared to replace the standard wheels when I ordered mine with something dark, fortunately what it came with were not to gaudy for my taste.
Didn't chose the car to be seen, just make the scene.  :2cents:

The HELLCAT will always be faster and get you in jail, no matter how plebeian it looks.

My idea of the hellcat is it's 100% as advertised. No extra cladding, no dress up items not built any better than a regular challenger just 100% retarded power. The same way I'd order a HEMI back in the day nothing but engine and drivetrain upgrades. The muscle cars of the 70's had flash with crazy paint and graphics (RT stripes hockey strip stripes etc...) but the hellcat is subtle. Very few things especially from the rear give away what is lurking under that hood and I like that. I think that white and the quality of the picture do nothing for it so I'd pick it up in almost any other color. I do really wish they would offer Plum Crazy or Panther pink.

As for value? Where else are you going to get 707 HP for ~$70k? With a warrantee and easy to find replacement parts at any dealer? I think it's a great deal if you want that tire smoking muscle car feel with much more refinement than you get out of a 70's era car. Will they depreciate? certainly almost all cars do but I think it's a future classic. Just like at one point you could get used HEMI cars off the lot for next to nothing (remember the fuel crisis of the 70's and 80's?...should have bought all the HEMI cars!!)  No one thought they were a future classic back in the day.

Would I buy one? Nah....I just love the old school looks of a true 70's muscle car. Especially when they have a modern suspension under them!

Thanks for the comments. Yes I know the stealth factor can come into play. I think I would like mine to have a bit more eye appeal but them again I would be going by you so fast you would just see a blur anyway

buy a Hellcat, put it away in a garage for 25 years, then it will be worth what you paid for it. maybe a little more.

Where as if you hang on to your R/T vert it will be worth considerably more... But then I suspect you like me don't play with these cars because of their value... So do what you think will make you happy..... Personally I still love the old stuff & couldn't give a rats ass about the new stuff.. But hey thats my opinion & the title of this thread did ask for my opinion....
