Aloha everyone.
I've browsed the site for some time, but have finally registered now that I'm *actually* working on my car (and not just letting it sit). I needed to get it running (and stopping) so I don't have to push it out of the carport to work on my other project (the 1977 VW Rabbit visible in the background). So far it has taken a new fuel tank and sender, new section of brake hard line, a new body-to-axle soft brake line, MSD (box/distributor/wires), new power and ground cables, some lug nuts (pretty sure 2 lugs per tire wasn't factory spec), and a good pair of safety glasses.
I spent a good bit of time yesterday working through the fender tag decode, and it has me scratching my head. It calls out the two-tone paint (blue body, white roof), and a black side stripe. Anybody see something like that before? Seems like an odd choice.
Anyways, it's a 318 (which runs, but water mixes with the oil) and I'll be putting in a spare 318 once I get it rebuilt. Fender tag says it was a 3 speed manual, but there's a 4 speed in there now... regardless, I'll be pairing the rebuilt motor with my Tremec 5 speed sitting in my shed. Then I'll probably have to sell a kidney to get it body and paint work. Long term plan is for it to be a driver.
My greatest moments of joy have been hearing it run for the first time, and the look on my girlfriend's face when I was "testing the rear end for Sure Grip" in front of the neighbor's house.
