Such is life - should have been a little more cautious. Good thing wife works late tomorrow - save myself a couple hundred on mothers day dinner  :grinyes:

Current rods measure 8 13/16 long. Not convinced they were the issue though as I was very cautious measuring these - although we had to use the hydraulic lifter as a solid one of the same length/height was not available. The Lunati lifters are unusually tall.

This seems like something I should be able to do ( the valves) or have I already done enough  :dunno:

You will need a new valve job to mate the new valves to the seats.

Someone mentioned above...but I would verify cam timing to be certain that is correct.

Then double check clearances and push rod length.  Something was badly wrong right off the bat.

I think I will just drop them off at Pro Stock in Edmonton unless anyone here knows somebody they trust. Randy @ Pro Stock seems pretty good - just takes him forever to get anything done.

Do you have adjustable rockers on this engine? Also is this cam a single bolt or Hemi style 3 bolt?

Yes adjustable rockers and a 3 bolt cam. Heads and roller rocker assy from Indy - Cam and lifters from Lunati.

Open to options Neil -and good call on the valves, I was sure hoping you were wrong. I wouldn't mind calling him and see what his schedule is like - PM his name and # if you like. Parents live between Red Deer and Sylvan so good excuse to go visit.

Suspect valves etc will have to come from Indy?

is there marks on the pistons where the valves touched ? , it is inside the reliefs in the pistons or are the valves too wide & hit the edge of the reliefs ? , you may need to fly cut the pistons to match the valves .

Just touched inside the reliefs - took some of the old carbon off that wasn't completely cleaned. Also just barely marked the flat edge of the relief. Would love to post a pic but file too large and it drives me crazy trying to resize.

Flycut? engine / pistons have to be removed?

at least they line up with the reliefs  :2thumbs:
flycutting is done with a valve using a cutter face to remove metal from the piston , you would need the engine out & probably disassembled after cutting the pistons to get all the cuttings out

Do you have the external oil feed lines installed for the rocker shafts?
