reproduction seat covers?
« on: May 10, 2015 - 07:51:39 PM »
Does anyone know if the seat covers that Classic Industries sells, come from Legendary?

Also did 73 E-body buckets have hard seat backs?

My thought is, if they originally came from Legendary, then buy directly from Legendary.
If there is a problem, they will honor their warranty better than if sold from another vendor.
We have seen another member go thru hassles on this issues not too long ago.
I purchased straight from Legendary and love their service and products.  :2thumbs:

Guess I will bite the bullet and order from Legendary.  Was trying to save on separate shipping costs and take advantage of the 20% discount from Classic on a large order.

And here is the thread I was talking about.
This memebr also wanted to save 20%.
Does this happen all the time? I doubt it. Is it worth the risk? Maybe.
But I will say, Legendary's products (at least my order and others I've heard from here) is very good/great product.  :2thumbs:

Here is the link to the other thread.

I just had legendary covers put in my 73 - love them!  Bought direct from them at Christmas, they had a 25% off sale.  I'd watch for a sale from them before you buy - maybe they run another around July 4.

No hard seat backs in my 73, cuda.

reproduction seat covers?

so.... now my back seat has a rip at the top near where the parcel shelf meets it...

the back seat covers are SO brittle (naturally)
so dry they're almost like card

the front seats, however, are much more supple.

then as I look at them, I wonder whether the fronts have been replaced...?

can anyone give me their opinion?

here's some detailed pics, using the door handle as a size guide for the grain

They look original, maybe the back seat covers have hardened more because they haven't been used as much, the front ones maybe softer because people sat on them more often?

thanks man.
think i might get new rear covers.

it has felt good to use old (original???) trim, but honestly they look pretty cruddy all dry and brown between the grain (even after a RIDICULOUS amount of cleaning time I put in...)

the fronts are nowhere near as dry looking

just hope they look right together -  existing front n new back

The stock covers should be ink stamped on the back side with a date.  If you ever have them off of the frames, you can check that out.

Back in the late 80's & early 90's I knew lots of guys fixing up these cars that would buy front covers from Legendary but leave the pristine rear alone, It looked good & no one was gonna sit there anyway so save the money.... It's quite possible thats what you've got...  And now you can either replace the rear cover & or replace all the covers depends on how fat your wallet is...  :2cents:
