E body Rear offset
« on: May 10, 2015 - 10:00:31 PM »
Hello guys,
I was told today that the stock e body rear is somewhat offset.  That is, it is shifted toward the passenger side by 3/8 to 1/2 inches.  Of course this would put the passenger rear tire closer to the outside of the wheel well than the drivers side.  Does anyone know for sure if this is true?  If so, what is the purpose of the offset?
Thanks

I can't answer any of your questions but sure would like to know the answers.  Mine is an 1 1/2 offset towards the passenger side !!

I built a perfect Dana diff , measured out exactly right & the diff was still closer to the passenger fender from the suspension it should have been dead even so all I can assume is something with the body panels being not even , I used an offset shackle on the drivers side to center the diff up

Some are worse than others and I'm not sure if it was intentional. But the difference does exist in most E bodies to one extent or another.

I just corrected the difference in my Cuda since I moved the perches doing a relocation. I will let you know how I make out

Gotta admit, I've never measured it, but  both of my rear tires are the same distance to the fender lip. The engine is offset to the left as well to accommodate the steering box. I thought the offset for the rear was built into the third member so the axle housing was actually centered, but the  pinion input was offset to align with the engine.
