Removal of A/C on small block 73 chally
« on: May 12, 2015 - 09:58:49 PM »
I want to remove all the under the hood AC equipment from my 73 Chally 318. It doesn't work, it clutters the look, it probably robs horsepower, it adds weight. Has anyone done this, is it worth it, and can anyone shed info on what kind of pulley belt system required to do it? :working:

I did it on my car when it was a 318.  Pretty easy to accomplish, minimal weight savings but worth it if you want to clean up the engine bay. For me 70 barracuda, I just need a short belt to the alternator.

Save all the parts as you may sell or trade the car later on.

You will need a non AC water pump pulley and a set of non AC belts.

Should be about 50lbs with everything engine side removed.
Compressor, condenser, drier, lines......more if you remove the AC box under the dash.
Here's a compare for just going to Sanden compressor.

I don't think its that easy. But I would love a finished project picture.

That was what needed to be done on mine. Sorry no pictures now. The heads are off the engine.

Well I filmed the entire process along with a timing chain replacement, pulleys belts, etc. Video should be up in a week or so.
