71 CUDA "AAR"

Starting a resto thread for 71 cuda 383 4 speed, third owner. Original owner R. Atkins shortly after purchashing the car new, was transfered to a base near San Bernardino CA. At that time there was a lively street racing seen. After spinning a rod in spring of 71 the car sat. He sold it to L. Cliffton. He removed the original motor, trans, k frame, installed a hemi auto from a 71 roadrunner. The car was a street racer. I responded to an ad in the recycler (a weekly trading paper) do you remember them, way before internet. Purchased a bunch of parts from him. He showed me the cuda under a cover and locked in a garage. Being only 16 years old and new to mopars I thought I was looking at a HEMI AAR.

Wow, I can not wait to see some pictures of the car.  I have lived in the San Bernardino area all my life. The base you are talking about is Norton Airforce Base...gone now, my grand mother worked there.

Thank you. Polaroids cir 1979, sticker on side windows (Waterman Racing Engines, connecting rod) a local speed/machine shop, NHOA on the back I still havnt decided if I will remove that one?  There is a car behind the cuda, any guess's??

I had to pay the previous owner $200.00 cash for this one (many years after the car trans action). He cried when he gave it to me. There is a Boss Mustang several car lengths behind this fish, getting its a$$ kicked. Apparently many c notes changed hands that day.

If you guessed 70 Challenger was behind the Cuda then you won. Your wondering....Challenger had a 440 auto NOM

This is the day we brought it home. Fall of 84. The primered one I purchased from Bill and Eds, (AN ALL MOPAR JUNK YARD IN FONTANA, I PRACTICALLY LIVED THERE). Primered car is also a 383 4 speed 391 posi car but a 70. Yes 15" ralleys. Can you see the ford and chevy in the picture? And what hood is leaning on the back of the 71 Cuda?

Thank you, I believe it was Norton. I have only talked once to the son. He wasnt sure of the base but knew some info on the car.
