Hemi valve covers
« on: May 14, 2015 - 12:22:49 PM »
Now that the motor is headed back next week were looking for valve covers.  We want to use correct 70 covers wrinkle black. I see repo's listed from a low of $200.00 on e-bay to almost $800.00 from Jim's. So what the heck can make that much differance ? Any recommendations on a particular brand or vendor.     Thanks in advance.

1999 Trans Am, LS1, heads, cam, headers, stall, etc! Love to surprise the rice rockets with this one. They seem so confident, then it's "what the heck just happened?"

Sorry I'm hogging this thread guys, I know you want to jump in.   :roflsmiley:   Anyway I did an in depth check of the e bay covers, seller has 99.7 positive, has sold 51 pairs of these covers. I dug deeper, looked at all 19 negative feedback, not one for these covers. So we have about a $700.00 dollar difference between YO and these   :dunno:  I mean come on.  What in the name of God could the differance be.  I just hate getting ripped off.  :villagers:  Rant over.

If you read his ad he states that his covers were used as a pattern for the reproductions... If thats the case he's close to the manufacturer level.... We all know Year One makes nothing but a huge markup....  He lists his phone number.. Call him & see what he has to say about it...  :2cents:

I came really close to pushing the Buy button on them.

At one time they were at $149.95 a few months ago.

I e-mailed him asking does the oil cap sit wrong like the other repros are now or correct like OEM were.
Didn't get an answer.

I called and was told by a person that to her knowledge there has been no issue with the oil fill cap. But she took my # and Anthony, the guy that used his 426 as a pattern is going to call me back after 3. Will advize.

OK, here's the skinny.  Anthony called me back, no the oil fill cap does not clock in the correct postion when twisted in. He has sold many more than the 51 pairs listed on E bay in other venues with no complaints. So I guess it boils down to if your building a concours correct point car, you wouldn't want them. If your building a unique restomod, firebreathing 572 Hemi ,5 speed with A/C that your still trying to keep some semblence of originality would you go the save a few bucks route ?  And does anybody know if the YO covers clock the filler cap correctly for $700.00 more.  :clueless:   TOXIC, balls in your court   :roflsmiley:   If you buy them and there junk I'm blaming Topcat   :smilielol:   :smilielol:

 :22yikes:

Only reason why I didn't buy them was because a friend of a friend who is a metal wizard fized up my OEM one's so the exhaust valve doesn't rub anymore.

BTW, don't forget to buy those spark plug oil tube guard inserts. Mancini sells them. What they do is whenever you pull the tubes and spark plugs out, oil runs into the cylinders. The cups are like dams that prevent oil getting in.
