detailing towels
« on: May 15, 2015 - 01:57:08 PM »
What's everyone using for detailing towels?  I bought a bunch of cheap towels from a local $1 store that worked great.  They were yellow and had red stitching on them.  I used them for buffing off wax as well as applying/buffing "quick detailer".  Over the years, one by one, they became grease rags.  I don't think I have any nice ones left.  The dollar store hasn't had those on the shelf in years.  I liked them because they were thin.  You could double them up and have nice control and "feel" when buffing.  I've got a couple new detailing towels but they are very thick and don't feel very soft to me.  They almost feel like a bath towel.

I have been using microfiber towels. You can buy them in packs at any auto store. And wash them. They are great.  :2thumbs:

microfiber towels work great and I get them cheap at Costco. Just don't let them hit the ground, if they do they will suck up rocks and particles just like velcro and scratch your paint. If it hits the floor I use it as an oil rag.

I have several of these that I can tell you are amazing. Glass and mirrors , paint, chrome, stainless etc. You can wash them, reuse them, they don't rip or tear. I wouldn't use them to take off wax though.  I was amazed the first time I used one on a mirror. Be careful if the little lady trys one in the kitchen though, you won't get it back.      http://www.ebay.com/itm/ULTIMATE-CLOTH-STREAK-FREE-10-pack-safe-all-surface-electronics-mirrors-car-RV-/261851417503?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cf78f8b9f         As Alan would say, E bay is your friend    :2thumbs:

I picked up a pack of towels at Advance Auto.  They don't feel as soft as the towels I'm used to using but they didn't scratch the paint at all.  I washed them before I used them.

Microfiber towels are what I use.  Whether its wax removal or cleaning glass and mirrors they get the job done.

I've got microfiber towels @ Sams club, twice.. Like a pack of 25 (maybe50? :dunno: ) for a few bucks vs 5 bucks for 3 elsewhere around here. I love then AND hate them... one slide off the fender or you drop one.... you gotta pick off all the dirt / small stones /leaves twigs ect. It wont rinse out with the hose....

I made the mistake of giving some of these to my wife to use around the house.  She loves them for glass and mirrors.  Hard to keep them around now.   :P
