    removed the Carb this afternoon..   the floats where set to   29/32 " ...I changed the level to 1 "... and also changed the main jet... from 98 down to 97..  still with the 1966 Needles....   so far the car runs good... 
    Now I need to make the  "Warm Start Test "  the next days...  and perhaps I will go one more step down with the main jets... down to 96
    because  under WOT the car runs into the MID 11th  AFR....  a little rich I think

    pulled the TQ today....  very carefully after a longer run... I let the carb siting on the hot engine for an hour 

    and what did I see ?  When I removed the carb...and turned him just a tad to one side...gasoline was coming out of the primary boosters...so I think the floats are still sitting a little high ( even with 1"  float hight ) and the gasoline level is to high
    in the fuel bowls... 

    The next days I will install the brass floats with a sligtly lower level..i.e  1 1/6 "  to see whats happening then...

    Perhaps the  phenolic floats are bad  also ?? soaked with gasoline... who knows ?

    Not sure why you removed the TQ? How about you go for a drive, park and shut it off. Pop open the hood and remove the air cleaner and then look down the carb. If the fuel is percolating out of the fuel bowls, you will see wet throttle plates. If that is what is happening, float level is not the issue. Heat soak is.  :2cents:

    the plates were a little wet... but also when I brake.... i.e just before it comes to a full stop, the AFR is going rich ..as soon as the car is in "level" the AFR goes leaner again....      so I think, that the bowl is full up to the very top.

    If I use a EDE Performer carb... the heat saok issue isn´t there. That´s why I think,  I will give those floats /levels  a try...

    I will let you know...what´s the result of this "operation "

    My 383 with a shaker had issues like you describe. I fixed it by covering the valley pan under the intake with a piece of Reflectix.

    ...played a little with the floats...

    switched over to OEM Brass floats... I sat them to 1 1/32 hight..  also went down to 096 jets... still using the 1966 rods

    Then I changed the Dizzy set up also...   16 deg @ idle   34deg all in   @ 2800 upm   12 deg Vacuum on top...
    now the idle is very smooth too... AFR shows 13.3

    Result... the car runs better than ever

    btw..  the OEM 489 case will be saved ! Because the car came with the 489 /3.23/ open Diff   from the factory. TQ 6319S and the 14 " Rallye Wheels are also still laying on the shelf....
