an fitting instal

i am running an fittings and braided fuel line from the pump to carb.
Have the vice clamps and wrench and the shop showed me how to install the fitting.Watched them do the first end.
Having trouble with the steel expanding before getting it into the fitting.
Thought about is there a funnel made to help force the hose into the fitting, or would using gorilla glue on the area where it would be cut help hold the steel in place long enough.

Any other tricks for the fitting install?

I've used masking tape to keep the braided part from fraying preventing assembly. I 'm not a fan of that stuff, expensive , pita to assemble and only lasts 1-4 years tops before it starts coming apart inside.

I did my whole car with a return line and a buddys circle track car with the left overs. Cost was about $200. the PTFE lines won't break down like rubber hose and are compatible with FI pressures I'm told.

With the regular lines, it takes about an year to start smelling gas even tho you cannot find the leak when using ethanol infused gas.

They use AN on aeroplanes! They are good but a pain to assemble and they have to be right. My plane I built had AN12 oil lines to cooler which run 80lbs. We tested them to 1000psi with no issues before installation. Brad is correct - get the fuel lines that resist fuel breaking them down. The fittings all depends on how much patience you have

If I had cut the line maybe with a bandsaw with the blade going in one direction rather than a hacksaw may help .

Agree on the patience, I work with doctors and sometimes my patience level is lower than needed.

Try using a zip cut wheel on a disc grinder or a chop saw.  Mask off where your going to cut and cut in the middle of the tape.

I've never tried a bandsaw but I'm thinking it won't work so well? I would think a bandsaw will fray the ends?  :dunno:  IMO you need something that cuts quick

The speed shop used the bandsaw on the first end, cut quick.
Gonna run to work and get the dremel to try.

The sixth try worked!

It was cut with a dremel then
I attached a hose clamp to the an fitting to lengthen the lead in area and that worked.

Hope all my recuts didn't make it too short.HaHa.
If it is I will get the PTFE line and the other fittings.

Glad you got it sorted out. I usually run hot water thru new lines to flush out any "nasty's" that might be lurking. Then blow them out.

I knew someone would of had to made something like that.

I clamped a hose clamp on the end of the fitting to accomplish the same thing.

Only a couple things you need, bench vise to hold the fitting, some oil, masking tape and electric cable cutter!! Wrap the tape around it tight only once or twice, cut with the cutters, put some oil on the inside of the fitting and put it in a vise. Never just push the hose straight in push and kind of twist it works every time.

That tool looks neat though
