SeaFoam video, does it work, ???
« on: May 17, 2015 - 04:03:05 PM »
Well not really a tool unless you consider a chemical to remove carbon deposits a tool. Anyway this video is a great before/after comparison of the product. I guess on a carburated motor you could just squirt it in the carb while its running. I was impressed with the cleaning of the piston edges, but most of the rest of the deposits were still there. I have to wonder about the deposits in the combustion chamber in the head. Best part was the borescope, I want one of those puppy's.   :woohoo:    http://speedsociety.com/does-seafoam-actually-work-in-a-car-with-proof/

i used a similar product on my 265,000 mile '01 Protege (my friend recommended the 'shop' version, can't remember the name, he did the work) and it REALLY works well. check engine light that was on for the last 80K miles is gone. 20%+ better fuel economy (used to eat a full tank every week for the work commute, now 3/4 tank). I'd recommend it in a heartbeat

Could always try water. Internal steam cleaning is a proven method of reducing carbon buildup.

I want to try that on both my Cuda and my crappy little Saturn.

I understand you just spray water in the carb (or air intake) as you rev the engine??

Any idea of how much water?

It would be interesting to do a before and after with a bore scope.

Never tried it myself, so no idea how much water it would take.

I used to work with a guy who claimed that at every 100,000 mile mark, he would put a few tablespoons of water/comet or ajax cleanser mixture into each cylinder, disconnect the coil wire, and turn it over several times. Vacuumed the residue out then did an oil washdown of the cylinders, change the crank case oil and drive. Said he had half million miles on the same engine with no rebuild in his old GMC. No way to verify if it was true or not, but such an exercise would work at deglazing and potentially improving ring seal. I think it would be easier and simpler to just change the oil regularly.
