Hi Rich G. Thanks for the compliment. I chose single stage for me because it's easier for me. With single stage I don't have to wet sand or buff out the hard to reach / odd angles. For the exterior sheet metal I will use base/clear because I can wet sand and buff that out pretty easy. Some people like to use all base/clear and that's cool to. Whatever gets the job done is all that counts. This is just my method to the madness.
anlauto, yes you are correct. This not an "OE" restoration, it is far from it. It technically is a 1972, but I liked how the 70s look and I had to replace the quarter panels and fenders anyways. So I thought, might as well make it what I wanted and do a full 70 clone. I've owned the car since I was a junior in high school, so it's been about 20 years now. I paint the underside of the fenders and quarter panels black as well. The backside of the top of the fender that meets with the hood I will paint green since you can see that while sitting inside the car. Also the back side of the fender near the door will get some green painted on it as well. I'll break the line between black and green somewhere on the fender that is not seen.
