I strongly suggest you add a 12" row of paper over that plastic, next to the painting edges. The air from your paint gun will move the plastic and any overspray on the plastic can come off and land in your paint. The paint will stick to the paper and not come off like it will with plastic.   :2cents:

Morning everyone.  Well my car is finally green, yea! Things went well.  I did have two runs in the clear coat that will need wet sanded some more.  The good thing is that they are below the middle body line on the side of the car.  So it will b less easy to see them.  I didn't have any problems with the paint gun blowing air and moving the plastic on the roof.  It was taped down really well.  Overall I'm happy with the results.  The base coat is blended in really well, no tiger stripping.  Wish I didn't get the 2 runs in the clear coat, but at least I can work with that.  In the photos the green looks lighter than it really is.  I guess the lights in the booth had some impact on that. When those lights are off it looks darker.  Now I'm going to let the clear coat set up for a week or so, then start the long process of wet sanding and buffing, fun times!

Thanks Rdchallenger12.  I was nervous about painting it.  I had 3 beers before I started on painting it, and I started painting it about 8:30am, hahahahaha.  So I took the edge off before I started painting.

This is the first car I've ever painted to be honest.  So anybody can give it a shot for sure.  The biggest thing about painting pearl or metallic paints is to make sure that you have at least about 50% overlap to make sure it flows together.  That's what I read and what I did while i was painting and the end result was no tiger stripes.

Congratulations! What a nice job! :jumping: You've got me thinking about painting also.  I'm mocking up a paint booth next weekend to do some primer. I don't know if I'll have as much space as yours but your results definitely warrant an attempt.

Thanks everyone.  Yes, im happy its finally painted. The body work looks good so far. But once it is wet sanded and buffed then I'll get a better idea of what it looks like. Cant wait to look at it in the sun instead of shop lights.

Great job!

I am right behind you with my car, I have to get it painted to move on. With youtube and the interweb, there is so much information available that you can really research it before acting.

Hi 71gogreen. I'll try to get a photo of the system that was used. It's a self contained system.  It has its own compressor built in. This is nice because it keeps any water out of the paint hose. Had that happen when using a tradional air compressor. Even had air filters on the main li e and still got water every now and then.

Yes a paint booth helps with this for sure.  There surely needs to be an exhaust fan in there to pull the paint fumes out of the booth.

Another thing that makes painting a little easer is drinking a beer or two before starting ;)
