Snake Skin Green Challenger Restoration
« on: May 17, 2015 - 08:44:37 PM »
Evening everyone.  I was finally able to paint some urethane single stage Snake Skin Green on my Challenger this afternoon in the engine bay and door jambs.  Here are some pics from today.

Hopefully I'll be able to paint some more soon. If I do I'll put them on here.

Thanks!

Looks good. What brand of paint did you use? I have a jeep I want to paint the same color but wanted to go single stage because it will get bashed up.

Thanks everyone for the positive feedback!

Haddixj, I attached a picture of the single stage paint I'm using.  It was mixed by a local paint shop for me.

I do have a question for everyone.  I want to paint my back tail panel with the tail lights flat black.  My question is does anyone have photos of where to break the paint between body color green and the flat black?  I've seen one car that was blue and had a blacked out tailpanel.  I took a photo of they made the flat black to body color transition, circled in red.  Also, what type of paint is used for the tail blackout and the front radiator support black out behind the grill?

Brads70, yes I can't wait to get this thing painted and start putting it back together!! It's been going on 3 years now.  Had a few things slow me down during the restoration process(fractured shoulder, herniated disc, ruptured appendix....)  It's been a little bit of a rough 3 years to say the least.  But I'm better now, back 100%.  However I did just get engaged, so that's going to take some time away from the project for sure!

Thanks again everyone.

Not sure if they are the same but here is a pic of paint transition on my 74. Paint is original.

Hope it helps.
Mike.

Nice color, will look sharp out in the sunlight.

I would caution you on using newspaper as a masking paper. The paint solvents/newsprint ink could bleed through it and into your  lower layers. A 12" wide roll of dedicated masking paper is cheap and lasts a long time. I also learned the hard way to not use the plastic sheeting next to the paint edge. I had dried overspray on the plastic come off and land in the wet paint when the air from the paint gun moved the plastic. I still use the plastic for large areas, but run a 12" wide strip of masking paper along the edges I will be painting against.

Just my opinion.... :2cents:

Finally got the trunk painted inside, never a fun process painting all the little spaces and underneath the dutchman panel. Next up is the back side of the doors, hood, and trunk.

Thanks to everyone for the support!

Hi Anlauto, i like to take them off and clean them up. Then it's easier for me to paint them off the car, then re-install them afterward. Just my prefence is all. Some people keep them on and that's  fine by me to.
