Power steering issue

my power steering pulley flew off while driving/as well as the belt.  I recovered the pulley, but my question is, can the pulley be re-attached on the spline, or do I need a new ps unit. is the pulley pressed on to the spline or just bolted?  Forgive my ignorance.

My '73's Saginaw pump pulley is held on by a nut

If you pulley flew off it's most likely bent and/or wore the hole bigger. For the piece of mind I'd buy a new one?  :2cents:

absolutely...just not sure if it needed to be pressed on...or just needed to be bolted to the spline.
If you pulley flew off it's most likely bent and/or wore the hole bigger. For the piece of mind I'd buy a new one?  :2cents:

Ah gotcha, It's been awhile but I think mine was press on with a key way?

any ideas on where to get one??? Autozone : no good.  NAPA: no good.  ROCKAUTO: no good, ADVANCED  AUTO PARTS: only has chrome ones.  I need the black one that holds 1 belt.

Ok, what's up with these prices?  $50 at 440 source or $100 everywhere else.  Like anlauto says, same parts different prices.  Can't be that many folks making this part.  Better get mine before 440 source raises theirs.  My pulley has a slight wobble and its the one held with a nut for a big block.
440 source claims Made in America too.

this is what I am left with...how do you know whether you have a Saginaw or General PS pump?

The shape of the reservoir & cap are an easy way to ID.  Federal pumps the neck is round & the cap is metal
Saginaw Pump the neck is a little oblong & the cap is plastic like the one in the picture I posted originally

You've got threads on the end of the pump shaft.  That tells you that it's a "bolt-on" style pulley. 

Put the pulley back on and check to see if it's bent.  If it's straight, it should be fine.  The nut will keep it on.  The nut should be a "locking" style nut.
