Upper Ball joint failure with pics

The threads on these ball joints are VERY shallow and easy to cross thread. I would be willing to bet that they ball joint was crossed threaded when installed. I spoke with a mechanic who has years of experience working on older cars. I had him remove my old ball joints from the control arms and he suggested that I add a few spot welds to my ball joints just to be safe.

I nailed it.   

Loosened up and wore the threads out over 12 years.

Either the ball joint threads failed, or the internal treads in the upper arm failed.  Check out my related post just listed

I am just wondering if some Locktite and extra clean threads during assembly would help prevent this from happening when I have to replace mine.

  better to be safe then sorry a new pair of quality ball joints will probably last longer then me anyway so I shouldn't have to do them again.

Yes I would tack weld them. Better to be safe!
