Hi Everyone,
I was very much an active member of this site some years ago when I bought a 73 Barracuda, and then when my son bought a 71 Challenger RT 383 4sp (The Barracuda is gone but my son still has the Challenger - he bought it when he was 18. He now is a Marine and is getting married today and leaving next week for Okinawa). I recently bought a 70 Challenger RT/SE, which can be seen here:
http://austin.craigslist.org/cto/5034130567.html. I have it on Craigslist because I originally bought it for resale, but now have bonded with the car and don't want to part with it. This also explains the super-high asking price! As I checked the numbers on it and evaluated it I grew to like it more and more. Also, it is a dead ringer for the yellow 70 Challenger RT 340 4 speed I drove in high school. So... I thought I would start by getting to know this site again and trying to get the car running to really get a feel for its mechanical needs. It hasn't been started in a long time, but the motor turns nicely by hand using the fan to move it. One issue, though, is the steering column. The keys were lost long ago and the solution was for someone to remove the entire key/steering lock section from the column and leave it dangling by its wires. I think it would be most cost effective to buy another column that has a key with it. Does anyone out there have one (non-tilt) that may not be cosmetically wonderful but is plug-and-play mechanically?
BTW, my user name refers to my former address of El Dorado, CA. I now am in Austin, Texas, and look forward to getting to know Cuda-Challenger folks in the area.
