So.....this is a fear of mine.  I have gobs of power and the ability to shred the tires at will.  How do I prevent this from happening to me?  Did the driver not realize he was spinning his tires in second, and just kept his foot in it?  Is it just being able to feel what the car is doing related to traction?  Its not like he spun it up fast.  Did he have a chance to recover at any point?  What was really going on here?  Seriously.  Its not just because its a chevy.  That is a seriously capable car.  Analyze this situation and break it down for me so my video doesn't end up here.

To me it is just a reflex / skill , I have driftd as much as anyone not on tracks so much but on ice , on ice roads I was slideways more then straight as it was easier to control a slide than wait for it to happen , I also tracked my Charger & once I found out the front would not turn I just started drifting around a road course , absolutly simple to control . More or less power & gentle steering corrections , having ABS / Computer traction control is a killer though .

Lots of horsepower, the back end started coming around & he panicked & lifted... Coming completely off the gas means now the tires aren't gonna grab till the car practically stops.... You need to get out of the gas part way so the tire speed closely matches the vehicle speed... Practice in a big parking lot/skid pad  area  till you know how the car is gonna act... Being a squirrel for the camera turning off traction control for the first time on a narrow road lined with trees/bushes & not having any experience set this guy up for a fail... & he jumped in with both feet... After you learn car control you react automatically to the car moving around... I've always felt it's better to learn what losing control feels like under a semi controlled situation rather then find yourself there when an emergency situation comes along... Now cars are designed to keep you out of trouble.. But some cars provide a way to disable the stability/traction control... Which is great if you have the skills to use it... Not so good if you don't....

I live in a winter climate.  I know how to drive on ice and snow.  I know how to slide a car around in less than optimal conditions.  I road raced motorcycle in my younger days and know how to slide a two wheel machine around on asphalt.  It seems when I watch these videos, that the driver seems completely unaware that his car is about to swap ends.  I would suppose that getting off of the gas a little sooner than these guys would have helped tremendously.  And not completely off the gas or on the brakes.  That just makes it worse.  I have seen enough of these types of crashes on video to be aware that it could potentially happen, usually when a bit of showing off or racing is happening.  I just don't want to miss anything and make someone else's mistake a learning opportunity for me with out actually having to go to the body shop.
