Spark Plugs for 318
« on: May 25, 2015 - 09:40:43 AM »
May be subjective, but what is a good plug and wires for a 71 318 bored .30, 70 340 4bbl intake, Holley 600, very mild grind on stock cam, and stock electronic points?

It currently has Split Fire SF6E from 20 years ago.

I use 8mm MSD wires, and NGK plugs
72 Cuda, owned 25 years. 496, with ported Stage VI heads, .625 in solid roller, 254/258 at .050, 3500 stall, 3.91 rear. 850 Holley DP, Reverse manual valve body.

1999 Trans Am, LS1, heads, cam, headers, stall, etc! Love to surprise the rice rockets with this one. They seem so confident, then it's "what the heck just happened?"

I too just put NGK plugs in mine. Hoping they'll last longer than the Champions I had in before them. Those champions were massively fouled up with heavy deposits on them after less than 5k miles.

Does have a small oil leak, but it's external and doesn't even lose a quart between 3k mile oil changes. Not sure what you mean about power valve, unless you're referring head valves. But they'd have to be bad on every cylinder, because all the spark plugs looked bad.

Thanks CP.  To be clear, you are suggesting this as an option for my engine I mentioned above?

Is that a problem only on holleys? I still use the original 2 barrel carburetor. Pretry sure it's a carter if I'm remembering correctly.
