Do you mean the center section? If they are both 8 3/4 should be a breeze. Just might have to get a special u-joint or different yoke. Basically remove the axles and drop out the center section, might as well put new axle bearings and seals on the axles while you have them out.

The rear-end on my 68 Charger is a 8 3/4 and the one on the 70 Challenger is a 7 3/4 so how hard would it be to swap.. I'm planning on putting a Dana 60 in the Charger, also I wanted to swap cause I wanted the extra 2 inches on each side for fatter tires..

thanks

Never heard of a 7 3/4 rear, there were 7 1/4, 8 1/4, 8 3/4, 9 1/4 & Dana 60.

Dimensions are in inches.
second # is perch width,
A-body, 65-72 55.6 43.0 4" lug bolt circle, offered in heavy duty apps.
B-body, 62-70 59.2 44.0
B-body, 71-72 62.0 47.3
B-body, 71-72 63.4 47.3 station wagon
C-body, 64-72 63.4 47.3
D-body, 64-72 63.4 47.3
E-body, 70-74 60.7 46.0
Looks like it will work, just be a bit short but you may be able to put bigger tires on that way. You'll have to move the spring perches. You sure it's not a 8 3/4?? I haven't seen any E bodies with anything but a 8 3/4 or a dana, but Lord knows I have been wrong before!!
Good luck!

Hey

Yeah the Challenger that I have is a 1970 Dodge Challenger S.E. it came with the rim blow steering wheel, bumper gaurds, and this crappy rear-end.. my bad I meant to say 7 1/4 oops..! yeah cause teh 8 3/4 have a sealed back end, and the Dana 60 has a 10 bolt pattern, my rear end has I think 9? so I have the crappy one, but yeah so it will work thats great, cause I want to put some fat tires on the back without tubbing and scrapping the body...

thanks

I know, in my 70 Cuda I have the 8 3/4 with 3.91's but it is the 741 chunk! I don't know if somebody changed it out or not but it has held up so far.

Roger , if you have the "9" cast on the center section it should have the 489 casting # on it which is the big 1 7/8" pinion , maybe you should just build a Dana for the Chall

Challenger - You`ll wish You Hadn`t

will you be selling the 8.75 out of your charger then?
In 70-71 base model barracudas  with /6's and 318's usually have a 7.25 rear. did challengers excluding deputies come with /6's and 318. I thought they were 340's and bigger. If so i dont think they should/would come factory 7.25 Non performance rear end???
