Whither the calendar?
« on: June 01, 2015 - 09:11:28 PM »
When I first took over the calendar competition, we got 40-some entries. I thought that was pretty good.

The next year, we got 30-some entries. I didn't think that was a problem, but I started posting reminders for people to take their cameras to shows and on cruises and drives as a reminder to get shots.

The subsequent year, we still got 30-some entries. I made a list of tips and tricks to get better shots.

Last year we got 20-some entries, if I remember correctly. A couple of people have privately suggested to me that the calendar may have run its course, or at the very least that it might be better as an every-other-year kind of thing.

Open to comments and suggestions.

I think reintroducing it so the new members know what it is may help....

Keep the Calendar going....Please!  I didn't enter my car the last two years as it made it before and I wanted others to get the same reward.

I plan to re-enter this year though.

Keep it!!! Please!

Anyone who sees the calendar on my garage wall goes: "cool, can i have one?"

Have no idea how much work it is involved in promoting and setting up the "vote-page" but if not too much, maybe start it up and if the number of entries is still low, just cancel it.
Or start earlier?

This forum is growing so there must be material out there.

I sure do enjoy buying calanders every year, but if it gets to the point where it isn't worth it for those who do all the work, then you guys should drop it. I'm just not a picture taking kinda guy, or very handy with puters so that is my reason for never submitting a photo.

I'd like to have the calendar continue.   As noted above, that comment is made without having any appreciation for what's involved in putting it together.   I'll submit a picture of my car when it's done.... some hope it will be for the 2016 calendar.

By all means continue the calender. We might have the car ready for 2016, time will tell. I agree if we can make new members aware of it would help.

I dig the calendar too, and I don't mind the effort, personally. My biggest concern is that since we've gone from about 40 entries to about 20 entries that shortly we might be getting less than 12 entries and no have enough for a year, let alone a contest.

I've never bought one because I make my own. I've had people ask me to make them copies of mine so I think people still like calendars if they are well done. Last year I made a Mopar one, a New York International Auto Show one, and a Hard Rock / Heavy Metal one using my photos.

I have never entered my car because it's not important to me to have it in a calendar so I've never really taken glamour shots of it. I would hate to take the place of someone who really would enjoy having their car in a calendar.

It's more about the "picture" then the car itself IMO.  You can take a crappy picture of a really nice car.  You can also take a really cool looking picture of a rusty turd.  If people would really take some cool pictures of their rusty projects, that would make an interesting calendar. :2cents:

I've been saying that for a while. Matter of fact, the biggest reason that people don't enter their cars is that they think the cars don't look good enough for the calendar. I always tell them that you're not going to be able to see the little dings and paint chips.
