73 challenger Trunk Pan
« on: June 05, 2015 - 09:15:22 AM »
need to replace the trunk pan in 73 challenger.

I see prices ranging from $180 to $369. Both pictures look the same (goodmark v ADM)

sometimes you get what you pay for, but is there an appreciable difference between these?

Most people go with AMD. Not sure if there are any differences in the panels.

Contact Dave at Roseville, he is a sponsor on here and give members a discount and he differently know which panel is better.

You will also need a two piece panel unless you are replacing the tail panel or dutchman panel at the same time.

I went with AMD for all my patches except for a sherman front quarter patch because I couldn't find any other brand. The AMD was superior in quality and fit. Definitely worth the money.  :2cents:

I went amd !!!    everything fit well if not perfect (   hood,  quarters, drivers floor, trunk extensions , dutchman, and outer wheelhouses and fender patch panels )

and lines were all crisp and had  zero issues......

Just My  opinion of coarse....

I had a 2 piece trunk pan that came with the car.  It was from Year One.  It required a lot of work but I think no matter what one I used, it would have been the same because the factory did such a poor job of lining up the other parts like the drop offs.  I think they built my car during the grave yard shift.

I use to think that too.... Till I was proven wrong.....  The full trunk floor comes with the section behind the rear frame member which the bumper brackets attach to.... Once you remove that 3-4" strip of metal the full trunk floor pan can be slid in through the slot.... It's actually pretty easy.. FWIW straightening & aligning the two piece trunk floor then trying to weld the seam is a PITA... I've done four of them.. All with great results but it took allot of work to get there.... If I do another theres no question it will be a one piece floor...  :2cents:

This isn't an E body, it's my 68 Coronet but it shows the bit of metal I'm talking about... E bodies don't have the three triangular brackets to deal with...

I know that is true for the 70, I'm assuming it's also true for the later models like the 73?

I haven't paid attention to the metal in that area of a 73 but I'd expect it to be the same... The tail panel obviously is different but the decklid interchanges so the tail panel location hasn't changed...  They did move the bumper back & add the rubber filler strip but that shouldn't effect anything... Most guys track down early bumper brackets & mount the bumper in tighter so thats another indicator that things are the same...

One thing I did notice was that the non-AMD pans didn't have the holes punched for the upper shock bolt access and I think they were also missing some holes in the rest of the panel. Take a close look at their photos and it may be visible to you. I used AMD one piece on my 74.
