383 without Formula S package

I'm new to the forum, so if this is in the wrong place, I'm sorry. I am looking into a 1967 Plymouth Barracuda on craigslist. The owner claims that it is an original 383 car. But, it is not a Formula S car- or it at least doesn't have any Formula S emblems. Was the 383 available without getting the Formula S package? I thought the 383 was part of that package, but I could be wrong. Any information would be helpful.

BAM,  if you want the real deal, and are willing to pay, its time to do some personal research and find out whats real and isn't.   Fender tags, what they mean, where various castings numbers are, etc, etc, will help you nail down whats real

Today, its so easy to piece a car together, put on the right stickers, and say, this is a "real" such and such car

Does it have cast iron manifolds on it?

From what I recall, the A body B, RB exhaust manifolds are rare.
That could be a sign to look for.

It got complicated on those 67-69 Barracudas. It probably could be legit, but I am not familiar with the 67 cars. I know in 69 for sure you could get the bigger engines without getting the S package. The more docs the better on a 67 or 68 car. I would want a sheet and data plate with that one.

Ok, I found a brochure from Hamtramck Historical, that it could be ordered with a 383.

Ok, now I saw, without the Formula S package  . No it wasn't ordered without it.

For '67, the Formula S package and disc brakes were required with the 383.

As previously mentioned, the fifth character of the VIN should be an "H" for the 383.

If the fender tag is still present, the engine code on the bottom line should be a "62." On the capital letter row there should be a 9 under the capital D for disc brakes and a 7 under the capital F for the Formula S package.
