Looks so nice without the marker lights IMO..They look much cleaner . This is how I did mine

that`s how I did mine too, but that`s definately not the way to tackle this.  You really need to cut out the frame for the side marker before welding in a piece.  The metal WILL shrink, no matter how "cold "you try to work, and the only way to get rid of the distortion this shrinking causes, is to dress /stretch the weld and heat affected area. You will not be able to work that weld with the frame still there   :2cents:

I guess I need to be more thorough when i post..... I cut the rear frame out after I had the blank tacked welded in.(maybe I should have showed a picture),lThe fender was off the car and made cutting the lip off easier.. If the person knows what they are doing ,you can weld them in without warping the metal much.. :2cents:

Instead of shaving them I am frenching in a set of '71 Roadrunner side marker lights. I have a '72 Challenger and just hate the stick on afterthought ones that stick out from the body. This how the rears were done. I am working on the front ones even as we speak. Eliminating them entirely here in Maryland might prove hard to get past the strict safety inspection we have here and may even be dangerous at night when I plan to drive the car as well.

I agree they look good without them, but I'd also be worried about legality. Heck for that matter, I'd be worried about visibility too. There are too many un-attentive drivers out there already and eliminating one more potential for them seeing me is a bit scary.

I just got mine back from the body shop, posted pics in my build thread today. I shaved everything but my door handles; didn't like the bulky 73 style side-markers, antenna, or fender turn signals. Also filled the rear valance shackle gaps, installed fiberglass bumpers and mounted from the back side so they are smooth.

Some nice work!!!  Im sold on getting it done!  I dont worry about it being legal....Ohio is lenient about inspections (as in we dont have them).....if you look at most new cars, they dont have them anyway and I doubt Ill drive it that much at night..too many big ohio bugs to get stuck in the grill!

On new cars the front and rear lights wrap around to the side where you can see them.  I am in the same delema to keep them or get rid of them.

I kept all the wiring intact incase they give me a hard time and thought if i absolutley had to i would install the round type off of a charger or what ever but hopefully i won't need to

Will it warp immediately or over time? I'm not sure how my bodyman did mine...so the 73 "recessed" bucket should have been cut out after it was filled?
