I see it now ... the bail wire is not snapped over the master cylinder lid ... that's it!

Just kidding.

I think what he is referring to is that your master cylinder appears to be of the wide variety where as IIRC the OEM 1970 master cylinders were more narrow.

Congrats on your big win! Regardless of which master cylinder you have in there, your AAR is one righteous ride!! Correct or not, I actually love the black steelies on there - they go so well with the black hood, stripes and vinyl top.
Cheers!

Thanks Tom, im glad you liked the car. We had a real good time at the show this weekend and mopar guy Brian Styles from Florida came by and chated mopar for awhile.  It has been alot of investigation of details with untouched aar cars & have been talking alot with Jeff Bangert who runs the aar registry about the details. The car has some tricky stuff we have documented from untouched aar's. Some more pics here: http://www.garaget.org/mypage/gallery.php?user=106330&album=62026

Flip it over...AAR's with power brakes had a 2229171 master cylinder.....That is NOT a 2229171 master cylinder. Doesn't matter what colour you paint it, it's the wrong casting. :2cents:

I'm sorry I didn't mean anything by pointing this out....I thought you were looking for one before....I must have you mixed up with someone else...my apologies... :worshippy

The 171 cylinder is the common one for these cars.

It's the correct one for these cars. Yes :2cents: It looks different and can be spotted a mile away :eek7:

How is it possible on the yellow picture that a master cylinder is "untouched" ? It's painted grey with rusty attaching hardware and a black booster ? If that's "untouched" ...I think I need to start drinking my morning coffee earlier... :roflsmiley:

If those two are both "correct" how come they look totally different then your "correct" one ? :clueless:

AAR's came with 2229171 masters, and none of those are '171's. :2cents:

I'd agree with Alan here.  The machining dimple in the front of the MC is the dead give away I saw.  And my AAR has the 171 MC that we are talking about.  But my .02 also.

Irregardless of the MC, your AAR is one rockin' ride! It shows a lot better than a lot of other AARs that I have seen. The whole red and black thing really works for me - I think maybe 'cause it is pretty much void of any chrome with the black steelies and the A22 bumpers. Your car doesn't need to be justified 'cause it totally ROCKS! :ylsuper:

That's an aftermarket DRUM brake master cylinder.  Raybestos/Napa MC36221.  I was an engineer there for many years so know it well!
The original disc brake master cylinder for all 1970 E bodies except 426 hemi is a Mopar part number 2944453, which is a Bendix with casting number 2229171.  Bendix was the OEM supplier for all Chrysler master cylinders in 1970.  A master cylinder is a wear part, so just like brake pads or an oil filter, it often wore out and was replaced at some point over the last 45 years, even on an unrestored car. :2cents:

Like i stated before, the 2 pictures i showed is from 1 owner cars with original master brake cylinders and like Alan stated one of them have been painted but NOT switched out, i have seen more aar cars with this style of master cylinder.  There is also aar/ ta cars with unpainted 171 master cylinders & boosters from factory even if all should have been painted as a assembly from the factory.  :2cents:  Enough said.

If someone is intrested here is some more details for these cars: White lining on the upper radiator hose, wide tape on the right taillight housing (all barracudas), Dark red inspection marks on studs for duck tail spoiler,  blue inspection marks on hood hinge bolts ( has been seen on both t/a &aar cars--But was not applied on all cars from factory).

Are you still looking for the correct master cylinder ?

Again...my apologies...I thought you were the one looking for a "171" master a couple of months ago, I must have confused you with some one else. I was going to give you a lead on finding one.

As long as YOU'RE happy with the master cylinder on YOUR car that's all that matters :drunk:

Alan. Will you start with a new project now when the aar is finished?
