440 #3898830 & six pack setup
« on: June 23, 2015 - 03:49:19 PM »
:working:Hello, I got abit of a story and hoping one of you carb specialists can supply some info  Ive read forums on six pack setups--- very good. Also went through mopar carb tuning 6pac book many times. Ive raced custom 4 cyl carb drag sleds for years and understand the circuits in the six pac.
I bought this 1970 440 six pack 4 speed cuda just over a year ago-- {I believe originally from Texas},--clone and the engine specs promised to me never happend,
The engine is 440 cubic inch. Cast #on block 3898830-- which I researched and would be corrrect. This engine will be mainly correct with the number except for the orange street mopar electronic module.
Holley carbs. Recently disassembled, cleaned and seen what was wrong, Center carb jetting is #62 jets. Our elevation is approx 1200-1800 feet. Should be 64?
I was hoping the front and rear carbs had metering plates with adjustable jetting. They did not and front carb measured with a drill bit was between .075th-.085th. My carb tuning book says .052.
I have the idle circuit pretty good after spending time on all 3 carbs. Front and rear carbs 1-1/8 turns out, center carb 1-3/4 turns out  but top end had a dieseling effect as Ive read in your forum from other owners.
Is the quick fuel plate what I need for front and rear carbs and what would be a jetting setup on this package? I could get a few smaller and bigger jets. I will also check timing on this asap.

One more question, I'm looking at the FB fuel injected throttle bodies. It looks very impressive. Is anyone running them? Will be doing something next winter
Thanks

I think an AFR meter is a must
72 Cuda, owned 25 years. 496, with ported Stage VI heads, .625 in solid roller, 254/258 at .050, 3500 stall, 3.91 rear. 850 Holley DP, Reverse manual valve body.

1999 Trans Am, LS1, heads, cam, headers, stall, etc! Love to surprise the rice rockets with this one. They seem so confident, then it's "what the heck just happened?"
