Rear suspension question...

Hello everyone...

I was wondering what the difference is between a 4 link and a ladder bar suspension set up....

What are the advantages and disadvantages of both...
I've heard different opinions from different people...some that I can't see the logic in....

The car in question would be used for ocassional drag racing and weekend cruising.....I want to now what would be better, what would have to be done and if anything has to be modified or taken off or put on??

Any information would be greatly appreciated...

 For a street application the ladder bars are a better choice & can be use with the leaf springs if floaters are used or coilovers & a panhard bar for a lighter system , I have built 2 street cars with the ladderbar / leaf system & have had incredable traction my Chall would hook on a 5" wide bias ply tire when I first set it up & my Duster would pull the front wheels 3' on slicks at the track with 1.50 60' times & even lift them on the street with a sticky street tire, I also ran this car as a street strip car for 10 years. the ladders can be installed with the addition of an extra crossmember 32" froward of the axle center & floaters on the housing with leafs  or a second  crossmember for the coilovers if the leafs are eliminated  
The 4 link is more pure straight line race , & does not handle the stresses of cornering as well but it is more adjustable [not nessisarily a good thing with approx 200 settings]  & is light. The 4 link basically requires the rear sub frame to be replaced to allow for the mounts for the 4 link & to make the frame stronger for the stress where the power is transfered to the chassis.
One of the ladderbar cars I had a part of building ran 2.6 seconds in 100' & timed at 54 MPH    :o & it had the ladderbars / floaters & a mini tub with about a 10" tire & is street driven

yeah chryco is great.  he knows damn near everything and is quite quick with his repsonses.  the board is still growing too, but these last couple of days have been real active, so the board is starting to come together.

I had Ladder/Leaf on my first serious race car, a '68 RR. It was on the bumper more than a few times. The drawback is the weight. It had a 5.57 Dana, 41 spline axels with 10 lugs per side and a cast iron 4 speed too so that wasn't a concern then.  :lol: I have a great picture of it doing a big wheelstand but that was back in pre-digital times. I have to get it scanned so I can post it up.

yes you will
 my duster would consistantly pull the front wheels 2' , THE CAR LEFT STRAIGHT & SET THE FRONT TIRES DOWN SO SOFTLY YOU COULD BARELY TELL , very consistant 60" times & never scary to drive
