Hoping someone will look under their hood for me .I have 2 belts on the front of my motor . 1 goes from the pulley to the water pump to the power steering pump . The second goes from the alternator to the front pulley .


A friend thinks it should be one belt goes from the alt to the pump to front pulley .  the second belt should be between the PS pump and the front pulley .

As always THANKS I get lots of help here and it makes things easier .

What size engine do you have? Do you have a dual groove water pump pulley?

You have it right as far as the factory made it, but I went with the second way you mentioned just for the reason, IF I broke either belt I'm not sitting on the side of the road.

Only problem I see with both belts going around the water pump would be the extra load on the pump bearing.

E-bodies don't need power steering at all, and you can save weight, room, and hp!
72 Cuda, owned 25 years. 496, with ported Stage VI heads, .625 in solid roller, 254/258 at .050, 3500 stall, 3.91 rear. 850 Holley DP, Reverse manual valve body.

1999 Trans Am, LS1, heads, cam, headers, stall, etc! Love to surprise the rice rockets with this one. They seem so confident, then it's "what the heck just happened?"

My water pump pulley has 2 groves ' how ever that does not mean anything . My motor was apart when I got the car and I have a couple of pump pulleys . The ps belt has been making a funny sound since day one under a heavy load  :burnout: . I'm thinking Chryco and my friend Mark are right about the way the belts should go . Either way the cooling system is currently drained (heater core) so I'm going to change the pump pulley to a single grove pulley and run the belts ps pump to  crank pulley . then crank front pulley to alt to water pump . I'm crossing my fingers , I hate the noise the belt makes now .
