Dash removal QS. 70 plymouth cuda
« on: June 29, 2015 - 04:34:29 PM »
I am going to be lowering the dash on my 70 cuda. Is there any tricks/secrets to lower it down a few inches while performing some work?  Thanks

Cluster or Dash Assy?   Either way drop the column... Dash Assy comes out pretty easy once you decide/commit to do it...

Drop the column, take out the two studs that support the column...
Unplug the four plugs in the engine compartment attached to the bulkhead connector & remove the two pal nuts mounting the bulkhead connector to the firewall...
Unplug the brake light switch, the connectors at the heater box and the cables connecting the heater controls to the heater...
Unplug the harness connectors located behind the left kick panel & the door switches behind both kick panels..
Remove the four 10/24 bolts  (3/8" head)  located in the outer ends of the defroster vents...
Loosen the two 7/16" headed bolts located at the bottom of the dash behind each kick panel...
Now you should have help... Roll the dash toward the passenger compartment...
As you roll the dash disconnect the speedometer cable, the antenna & anything else I missed...
Lift the dash out through the passenger side...
Easier then you expected..

So in order to lower the whole dash assembly all that really needs to be done is to lower the column and lower each stud mounting location right?

You don't lower the dash, you roll the top edge away from the windshield then lift it out...  If you lower it you'll likely damage the heater box, glove box & who know hat else... What do you need access to that lowering the dash is gonna accomplish?
