Welcome to the site. Question for the more knowledgeable - how rare is a yellow car with green interior? I've never seen one.
In search of the eternal buzz!

Welcome to the site and how about a middle position on what to do? I'd restore the car with the same colour combo, but, I'd also put in the gear required to make it go and whoa. Use your GM experience as to what handled better- a 427 Camaro was never a Trans Am option and there was a reason for that. Good luck with the car.

Weren't the tail panels on the 72 rallye's black with argen in the recessed area of the tail light? If so, it looks like that tail panel was repainted so maybe so was the car? Just a thought

I''ve seen the tail lights both ways so I'm not sure. Does anyone know how I can find out if this is a rare color combo?

Do you have a fender tag or build sheet? I'd look at that first to see if its original

OK guys i finally got to see the car in person today and found out some new info. The car is a genuine rallye but its 318 not a 340, also in my original post I said the car at one time had a black vinyl top that was removed when it was actually a green vinyl top. The car is missing its fender tag though???

The floor and trunk pans are in almost amazing shape and are extremely solid as are the frame rails. The roof is in great shape, I know some vinyl tops cause rust but it was also solid. Car has cassette player, A/C, power brakes, power steering and door sill molding.

Finally had the Challenger delivered yesterday!  :bananasmi It took forever to wash it and see what I had going on under all that grime. Short story is the car is as solid as I thought, no holes in the floor or trunk pans. I tried to fire it up but the carb isn't getting any gas so I'll get it running later.

I did have a question for you guys though, there is a third brake light in the back window and two speakers that don't look like they would be factory so if you guys could tell me if this brake light is factory or what I would appreciate it.

Here's some pics

Looks like a nice start.  The 3rd brake light and those specific speakers are not factory.

Welcome to the site....

Looks like a cool starting point. My vote is to keep it original color inside and out. You wont see another one like it at shows.
If you change it to plum crazy, be prepared to park in the "purple" section...

Enjoy your new project, build it the way YOU want it to be.

I'll be honest up until this point I've been a die hard GM man and I've owned plenty of Camaros and Corvettes, just being on the forum makes me feel like I've turned to the dark side rofl.

Welcome to the dark side,... you're going to like it here....  :ylsuper:

I'm lovin it so far. I've completely removed the interior because it was shot. The carpet was so bad it completely tore when I moved it so it had to come out even if I decide to go back green.

I'll admit I'm really struggling with the color combo. I've ALWAYS wanted the plum crazy and black combo but if this is a pretty uncommon color I don't want to ruin it.

Does anyone know of a book or website that would tell how many cars with this color combo were built? If I restore it original I'll probably keep it awhile and later sell it to build a purple car but with the fender tag missing I don't know how much it would be worth restored original. I found several pieces of the broadcast sheet but alot of pieces are missing and what I do have is mostly illegible.

My vote is to build it the way you want. If you like purple with a black interior- go for it! Build the car for you! And keep it for as long as you can. You may find that after the resto, you may have such a strong bond with this car that it's very hard to part with (this happens to me) and you can't sell it. So... Build it to keep! Just my opinion...
